STAYing Connected: Our Recharge & Connect Station
Updated: Oct 6

A low phone battery can become a real barrier at the wrong moment. It may make it harder to answer a call from a case manager, check an appointment message, arrange transportation, contact a loved one, or find out where to go next.
Stability Through Advocacy, Inc. (STAY) created the Recharge & Connect Station to address that everyday challenge during community outreach. It gives people a place to charge their devices and creates another opportunity to connect with support.
Why device access matters
For many people, a phone is also a calendar, map, contact list, and way to receive messages from family, providers, and service teams. When a device runs out of power, those connections can be interrupted—especially when someone is managing urgent needs or waiting for time-sensitive information.
The Recharge & Connect Station offers a practical way to charge without having to search for an outlet or ask a business. STAY introduced approximately 20-minute charging sessions to help make the station available to others, too.
A practical part of outreach
The station can serve up to four people at once. Charging time can also create space for a conversation, resource sharing, or simply a moment to pause.
By September 2026, STAY had supported about 10 recharge sessions. Each one offered someone a chance to charge a device, stay reachable, or continue with the next part of their day.
A charged phone does not solve housing instability or replace essential services. But communication can help people follow up with providers, check directions, stay in touch with trusted supports, and access information. Device charging is one practical support among many that can make those next steps easier.
The Recharge & Connect Station reflects STAY’s person-centered approach: listen to what people need, respond in a useful way, and make support welcoming and low-barrier. STAY will continue looking for practical ways to help people stay connected to the people, services, and information they need.
